Pulmonary surfactant (tensioactive)
Natural pulmonary surfactant suspension (porcine lung extract) for intratracheal administration, indicated for rescue treatment of Respiratory Distress Syndrome in premature infants, reducing associated mortality and pneumothoraces.

Poractant alfa can be associated with pulmonary haemorrhage in the premature newborn, especially in the first days.
Watch for signs of pulmonary haemorrhage (bloody secretions, respiratory deterioration) after administration.

Poractant alfa is used precisely in neonatal respiratory distress syndrome; its administration requires close ventilatory monitoring.

Endogenous pulmonary surfactant reduces surface tension at the air-liquid interface of the alveoli during ventilation and stabilizes alveoli against collapse; CUROSURF compensates the surfactant deficiency of preterm infants and restores pulmonary surface activity. In vitro, it lowers minimum surface tension to ≤ 4 mN/m.
Restoration of alveolar surface activity by direct intratracheal administration of porcine phospholipids and surfactant proteins (SP-B, SP-C), improving oxygenation and lung compliance.
Intratracheal administration (acts locally at the alveolus; no relevant systemic absorption).
Administered directly to the lung, where biophysical effects occur at the alveolar surface; no human pharmacokinetic studies characterize absorption, biotransformation or elimination.
